Niagara with a cargo of 8 tons (295 pinewood boxes with 2 solid gold bars per box sailed from London via Auckland in New Zealand. From there en route to Vancouver over the Pacific ocean. However, just 29 miles from the coast the ship hit a mine and eventually sank to the bottom of the ocean. The  continuation of the story is the recovery of the gold. A most exiting story. S/C (Eric Linklater) 1st Edition 1972. 287pp. In 1872 HMS Challenger sailed from Portsmouth in England on a journey that was to circumnavigate the world, covering over 68,000 nautical miles and lasting a thousand days and was a pioneer expedition of importance. This book looks into this trip and the author with the early records tries to re-creates it with additional modern material. An interesting volume. THE WRECK ON THE HALF MOON REEF.   Paperback  (Hugh Edwards) 1975. 188pp. This is the story of the survivors of the Dutch East Indian vessel "Zeewyk" which became impaled on the reefs around the Abrolhos Islands and then broken up by the thunderous seas. It was a quick death for some, and a slow death for others. The rest of the survivors drank the "Zeewyk's" liquor, wrangled themselves to the verge of mutiny, and cast greedy eyes on the chests of treasure salvaged from the wreck. At last they realized that rescue would never come, and built the Sloepie. Good condition.

THE WRECK OF THE BARQUE STEFANO.  S/C   (Gustave Rathe)  1990. 136pp. The "Stefano" was wrecked on the North West Cape in Western Australia in 1875.  After clashes with the natives the last two survivors were rescued by Captain Tuckey of the Jessie.  A classic of survival.   Mint condition.

THERE WAS A SHIP: Patsy Adam-Smith's story of her years at sea.   H/C + D/W in plastic cover.  New Edition 1983.  239pp. The author, who decided and was determined to go to sea, took her first adventure around the scattered islands of Bass Strait and the coast of Tasmania.  After that, during her innumerable voyages, Patsy took hundreds of photographs and she has used these to illustrate this account of her adventurous life. They show the remote and vanishing lifestyles of the Cape Barren Islanders, the lighthouse families, the mutton birders and the men who sail in small wooden ships. Byron) 1st Edition 1985. 118pp. This is a true story of the wreck of the Port au Prince in Tonga in 1806 carried a fortune in pirate treasure, and the Eliza in Fiji in 1808 was lade with more than 30,000 Spanish dollars. The amazing tale of the shipwrecks is interwoven with bloody massacres, primitive island customs, brutality and gory cannibal feats. Is treasure still waiting to be found ? .... Despite some recent efforts, it is probable that the spoils of the shipwrecks still lie hidden in the islands. Mint condition.

This edition, Angus & Robertson Australian Classics Edition 1982. 318pp. This book contains Francisco Pelsaert's Indian report to the Dutch East India Company and the wreck of the ship Batavia in 1629 off the coast of Western Australia together with the full text of his journals concerning the Rescue Voyages, the mutiny on the Abrolhos Islands and the subsequent trials of the Mutineers. Ex lib. Reasonably good condition with tape mark on the front and back inside covers. The pages are in good condition.

WRECK OF THE   SYDNEY COVE. H/C + D/W (Max Jeffreys) 1st Edition 1997. 257pp. This records the epic story of the shipwrecked crew and their heroic journey from Bengal, India to Australia when it foundered in a hurricane off Preservation Island in Bass Strait to Port Jackson in 1797. To find help a crew was sent in a longboat to raise the alarm but it too was wrecked off the Victorian coast and the crew had to then walk 400 miles on foot to Port Jackson. This book is a reconstruction of these events that took place for the first time based on a diary kept by one of the survivors. Very good condition.
