THE LONG VIEW: A History of Canberra - Australia's National Capital. H/C + D/W (Lionel Wigmore) 1st Edition 1963. 240pp. The author tells of how political conflict delayed for years the selecting of its site in a pocket of upland pastures; of the genesis of the Griffin Plan and the commencement of the city. The story then moves on to the conspiracy of circumstances in war-torn decades and years of economic depression which threatened fulfilment of the plan; and, finally to the triumph pf the brilliant conception, its wisdom, dignity and foresight vindicated after fifty years. This book is a splendid introduction to Canberra. Good condition.
